TrendForce has predicted that Transsion will be one of the top 6 smartphone makers globally in 2021. As you all know, 2020 is a very bad year because of the Global Pandemic caused by Covid-19. A lot of businesses were flattened which includes the smartphone business. Smartphone manufacturers like Transsion had in mind to launch some certain model of phones but this Conora-virus took down every idea.
According to TrendForce, the total annual production of smartphones last year 2020 was only 1.25 billion units, a year-on-year decrease of 11%. This is the highest decline in history. Covid-19 is a threat to health and business but hopefully, a huge recovery will be made in 2021. The agency expected the smartphone industry to recover with an increasingly stable lifestyle in 2021.
Through periodic replacement demand and the support of emerging markets, it is estimated that the total annual production will grow to 1.36 billion this 2021. Transsion will be one of the top 6 smartphone makers globally in 2021 as was predicted by TrendForce. If this prediction comes to pass, this will be a huge achievement by Transsion as they have never been on the top 10 list of smartphone makers before.
Transsion holding which is a company based in Shenzen China owns Tecno, Infinix & itel. They also own the accessories brand called Oraimo. They focus mainly on the African markets and some parts of the Asian market. The full list of other smartphones that will be on the Global seats in 2021 includes Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Transsion, and Huawei. The above six will cover nearly 80% of the global market.
But public health events and the international situation uncertainty, coupled with the shortage of foundry capacity, the future direction of the industry is still variable. TrendForce also estimates that the total global 5G smartphone production in 2021 will be about 500 million, and the penetration rate will likely increase to 37%. 5G was launched on April 3, 2019, in Chicago and Minneapolis.
Customers in those cities were the first in the world to have a 5G-enabled smartphone connected to a 5G network. While the Network has expanded to few counties in the world and also seeing that 500 million units of smartphones will be 5G enabled, we hope to see the Network expand to more countries in 2021. As they said Transsion will be one of the top 6 smartphone makers globally in 2021, then we will likely see a 5G enabled Transsion phone this year.
